History
Home to three schools from 1951–Present:
Beach Middle is located on 600 25th Street approximately six blocks from the Atlantic Ocean.
VBMS serves the oceanfront resort area and surrounding neighborhoods in the City of Virginia Beach.
Constructed in 1951, the building has been home to Virginia Beach High School (1952-1966), Virginia Beach Junior High School (1966-1992) and Virginia Beach Middle School (1992-present).
Several additions and renovations have helped the facility keep pace with the changing needs of education.
In 1963 an entire wing (100 hall) was built and extensions were added to the 200 hall, 300 hall, and the cafeteria.
During the 1976-77 school year, we added a new gym and two new health rooms, enlarged the wrestling room, the library, and the administrative areas.
Food preparation facilities were also enlarged that year.
During the summer of 1981 extensive renovation of the home economics lab was completed.
During the 1991-92 school year, the school was renamed Virginia Beach Middle School to accommodate the citywide transition to Middle Schools.
In the summer of 1993, major renovations occurred in the office area, guidance, and school hallways.
During the summer of 1999, renovations concluded with work in the kitchen.
